I have tried the laptop, with Windows 7 and the desktop with Windows XP. The point about the Kenwood 590 having a warranty is valid, but dang the Icom is a much nicer looking rig.

I really liked the 950 and would still have it but the chance at the Icom came along. The Icom is a very nice receiver and the band scope is more useful then on the Yaesu 1200s. HRD (and N1MM logger) refuse to work with both. I replaced an FT950 with an Icom 756 pro 2.

HRD works but I find N4PY more cost effective and easier to use. I have an Icom-756 (original, not pro) and an Icom-706MKIIG. I much prefer N4PY graphic user interface. I don't recall making any changes to the default settings with the ProII menu items. I use it with MicroHAM USB II and it works quite well. I think for digital the Navigator is more sensitive than the SignaLink USB box the Navigator replaced. GM Don, I run a ProII with a Navigator and have been for about 2 years or so the Navigator is a great box, not just for digital, but also has true RTTY (vs AFSK) as well as a built-in K1EL keyer.
